Overview
This piece is a title sequence teaser for “My Undesirable Talent“, a podcast story featured in American radio program This American Life. It’s about two hands interacting with symbolic elements that tease the buildup and aftermath of their dishonesty.
The main approach I applied for this project is creating metaphor/symbolic imagery with digital painting. The symbols I have chosen begins with a card trick that represents the skillful deception of both of characters. Ropes, which bind the hands, symbolizing constraint and struggle. And finally, snakes, that indicate the dangerous and addictive qualities of their undesirable talent.
Process
For inspiration, I looked for images related to metaphorical elements including snakes, ropes, chains and magical card tricks, and made some observation of the gestures and movements of hands, in order to figure out appropriate camera moves and light sources to convey my concept.
